I am 59 years of age. I would like to thank Guy Ashburner for helping my body return to a state of pain free functioning in a short series of 5 sessions. A few months ago I was about to embark on a rigorous physical and mental journey in a rural area for a few months …….. my mind was ready, but my body was not. A very active childhood growing with mostly boys, and having to “keep up” to belong.
“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” Jim Rohn The Burpee is an exercise that was devised by Royal H. Burpee, an American psychologist in the 1930s. It was originally used as a“Burpees test” which consisted of a short number of “Burpees”executed in rapid succession to measure agility, coordination and strength. This test was utilized by the military to assess soldiers who need is to be able to drop into a firing position and then bounce back up lightning-fast to move to a safe position.
“We conclude that when the fluids of the body are stopped in the fascia, organs and other parts of the system, stagnation, fermentation, heat and general confusion will follow …” Dr. A.T. Still, D.O. (Founder of Osteopathy) 1874 Do you find it unbearable to get out of the bed the first thing in the morning because of the pain which you feel? – be it a stiff neck, sore back, or other issues.
“Recent studies have shown that, in general, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is more common in women than men, particularly among those with poor muscular development, poor posture or both.” Thoracic outlet syndrome occurs when there is compression, injury, or irritation of the nerves (brachial plexus) and/or blood vessels (subclavian artery or vein) as they pass from the neck toward the armpit or upper arm through a space in the upper chest between the collar bone (clavicle) and the first rib.
Any repetitive exercise, with or without load, where the lumbar spine is allowed to flex, round, or flatten, will over-stress the discs and ligaments. Stuart McGill, a professor of spine bio-mechanics at the University of Waterloo, Canada. Crunches and sit-ups involve lying on your back and repeatedly bending and extending your spine. Any forward bending motion of the torso such as sit-ups, crunches, rope pull-down crunches, toes to bar, knee to elbows, roll downs or touch our toes causes a significant increase in lower back intradiscal pressure.
I have been competing as a professional Dressage rider for over 15 years and have represented WC province on several occasions. I ride an estimate of 5 to 7 horses every day and for years I have been having problems with tightness and stiffness through my back and neck. In the past I had been for regular physio as well as massages but after a few days my body would tighten up again and it affected my entire posture as well as the aids (signals) that I would then pass onto the horse.
“You can’t fire a cannon from a canoe.” This expression, refers to the fact that the production of great force requires a solid platform — a concept that holds as true for the human body as it does for artillery. The scapula is commonly known as the “shoulder blade”, and rests on the upper portion of the back. The role of the scapula muscles is critical in the stability and mobility of the neck and shoulder joint as the shoulder girdle is held in position by muscle tone (levator scapula and trapezius muscles attach to the neck bones).
Hip bursitis symptoms most often include a deep aching pain that concentrates on the outside of the hip joint at the top of the outer thigh. This sometimes includes buttock pain which may extend down the outside of the leg towards the knee. The pain is usually intense and sharp in the early stages of the condition and may develop into a dull ache over time. Normal activities such as walking, climbing stairs, running, sitting cross-legged, getting up from a chair or prolonged standing often aggravate the symptoms.
“The scrum and the tackle are the two really contentious areas of the game. If you get those two aspects right, most rugby matches will work in your favour.” Alan Lewis – Rugby union referee Safety in the scrum is of absolute importance in the game due to the potential for neck and lower back spinal stress. Spinal dysfunction, associated nerve irritation and poor posture impact on muscular function, key for strength, speed, flexibility, coordination and agility all of which are important for a player to perform at their best and to avoid injury.
I was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 16 after I was involved in a car accident. It was unclear whether or not the accident had been the overall cause of the scoliosis or not but after the accident, all the muscle in my back began to shorten and tighten and my lower back became increasingly painful. There was an option of an operation in order to surgically strain my spine but my symptoms did not appear severe enough at the time and the doctor recommended against it, as I was still growing.
